The iPhone is a line of Web and multimedia-enabled smart phones marketed by Apple Inc. The first iPhone was released on the 29th of June 2007, and the last generation of iPhone, the fifth one was released on the 14th of October 2011. iPhones can also function as a camera phone, a video camera, a portable media player, has both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity and thus this gadgets are good Internet clients with web browsing capabilities.
Most of the iPhones are still sold with a SIM lock and this restricts the use of the phone. On the contrary to most GSM phones, iPhone cannot be officially unlocked only by entering the code. However, various hackers have found an applicable method to unlock iPhone from a specific network.
As mentioned above, there are five generations of iPhone models, each accompanied by 5 major releases of formerly iPhone OS and now known as iOS. The iPhone 3G has in addition 3G cellular network capabilities, a compass, a camera of higher resolution etc. The iPhone 4 has got a front facing camera suitable for video calling and application such as Skype.
The iPhone interface is based around the home screen, i. e. the graphical list of applications that are available. The first generations of iPhones enabled applications to run one at a time, but iOS 4 and iOs 5 include running application in the background. By default, the home screen includes icons for messages, photos, camera, maps, youtube, calendar, notes, clock, settings, Application store etc.
The iPhones allow call holding, caller ID, audio conference, call merging. The voice control also allows user to say the name of the contact or his/her number, and the iPhone dials it. The first two generations allow only voice dialing through the third-party app, but the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS support this voice control without additional application.
